The giant trees of Tasmania are constantly under threat from logging. Some of these trees are over 4000 years old and have conservation orders on them, so logging companies clear fell around an old tree, destroying the understorey and removing the supporting biodiversity. These trees need each other and the symbiotic biosphere relationships with other plants to withstand high winds, the dangerous high density burn offs done to stop re-growth and “Island” isolation. Eventually the tree is unable to survive on its own and will die. Saying no to wood chipping of old growth forests and supporting the Australian Conservation Foundation will ensure this stops and old giant trees will survive.
